Short Info: The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), which was introduced in 2014, is still promoting financial inclusion in India as of March 2025. The program’s goal is to give everyone access to banking services, with a focus on underbanked and economically disadvantaged groups. The Government of India’s flagship program, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), aims to give all residents access to affordable housing, with a particular emphasis on middle-class households, low-income groups, and economically disadvantaged groups. Since its inception in 2015, PMAY has advanced significantly in both urban and rural regions.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Government of India’s flagship program, seeks to provide affordable housing for all citizens, with a focus on low- and middle-income and economically disadvantaged populations. There are two primary components to the plan’s execution:

Key Updates for 2025

Extended Goals: During the 2024–2029 phase, the program intends to build an extra 2 crore homes in rural areas and 1 crore in urban areas.

Enhanced Financial Assistance: Under PMAY Gramin, financial aid has been raised to ₹1,20,000 for building homes on level ground and ₹1,30,000 for hilly areas.

Launched in September 2024, the Awaas+ mobile app streamlines the application process by facilitating self-questionnaires and aided surveys to identify qualified recipients.

New Eligibility Requirements: Families with possessions like refrigerators or motorcycles are now eligible for aid, and the annual income threshold for recipients has been increased from ₹6 lakh to ₹15 lakh.

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): DBT transfers money straight to recipients’ bank accounts in order to guarantee prompt financial aid.

A recent success story Indu Devi from Rohtas, Bihar, had her dream of having a pucca house realized in March 2025 thanks to the PMAY initiative.

Application Process

Those who qualify can apply via the official PMAY website or the Awaas+ mobile app. To guarantee efficiency and openness, the application procedure includes self-assessment, document submission, and verification.

Online Application: By completing the application and sending in the necessary paperwork, interested recipients can apply via the official PMAY website.

Offline Application: To submit an offline application, candidates may also go to the Common Service Center (CSC) or the relevant local organization.

Extended Time Frame for Implementation: In order to build an extra 2 crore homes in rural regions, the Union Cabinet has authorized extending PMAY-G from the fiscal year 2024–2025 to 2028–2029.

Improved Requirements for Eligibility: Income Limit Revision: Under PMAY-G, households earning up to ₹15,000 per month are now eligible for aid. Owning a two-wheeler used to constitute a disqualification, but that limitation has been lifted. Families that pay income taxes, own three-wheelers, or have a Kisan credit card with a credit limit of more than ₹50,000 are still not eligible, though.

Initiatives for the Empowerment of Women: By requiring that homes under PMAY be registered in the names of female recipients, Uttar Pradesh has taken a major step toward empowering women. Women’s financial stability and property ownership are improved by this action.

The Growth of Rural Housing in Chhattisgarh: The Chhattisgarh government has reaffirmed its commitment to rural development by announcing plans to build 1.8 million new homes under PMAY-G.

Eligibility Criteria for PMAY

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) eligibility requirements are as follows: The following requirements must be met by applicants in order to be eligible for benefits under the PMAY scheme: No permanent (pucca) home in India should be owned by the applicant or any family members.
